Tajikistan population produces over 90% of livestock products

The share of the population in the production of all livestock products, except eggs and poultry meat, in recent years in Tajikistan accounts for over 90% of the total.

As reported by "Avesta" in the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, livestock is one of the components of the agricultural sector of the republic, which in terms of total agricultural production in the country ranks second after crop production.

According to the source, the total cattle livestock at the beginning of this year amounted to over 2.3 million heads, 93% of which are in the population. In the mountainous regions of the republic, animal husbandry is the main source of income for residents.

The total livestock of agricultural animals and poultry in the country increases annually, by an average of 8-10%. The share of the population in the production of all livestock products, except eggs and poultry meat, has been steadily growing in recent years, exceeding 90%.

The ministry also noted an increase in the production of eggs and chicken meat in the country and a reduction in imports of similar products from abroad. Last year, over 7.5 thousand tons of chicken meat was produced in the country. This year it is planned to increase this figure to 12 thousand tons.

As reported by "Avesta" in the Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification of the country, last year, due to an increase in the production of eggs and chicken meat, imports of similar products from abroad decreased significantly.

In particular, the import of eggs decreased 6 times and the import of chicken meat decreased almost 2 times. In 2018, 1.9 thousand tons of eggs were imported. This figure in 2017 was 11 thousand tons. Last year, imports of chicken meat amounted to 25 tons, which is 19 tons less than in 2017.
